Detroit Motor Show - Porsche chief Matthias Mueller has all but ruled out a Formula One engagement of the Volkswagen Group.

“There is some speculation again at the moment. I don't know where it comes from. I can tell you it has not been seriously discussed at the meetings I have attended over the past months,” Mueller told dpa at the North American International Auto Show.

“There are no decisions in this direction.”

Porsche is part of the Volkswagen Group and engaged in a long distance sportscar series which includes the famous Le Mans 24 hours.

Looking at Porsche, whice last competed in F1 in 1991 as engine supplier of the Footwork team, Mueller said: “Formula One costs a lot of money. I know how much the successful companies invest per year. We don't have that money.”

Mueller added that the future of F1 could also be unclear once commercial rights boss Bernie Ecclestone, 84, is no longer around.
