Michael Schumacher is paralysed and unable to speak, a friend has revealed.

The German F1 driver also has memory problems as a result of the skiing accident that left him fighting for his life, said former racing driver Philippe Streiff.

Streiff, who is himself wheelchair-bound since a crash in 1989, told French radio: ‘He is getting better but everything is relative. It’s very difficult. He can’t speak. Like me, he is in a wheelchair paralysed. He has memory problems and speech problems.’

Schumacher, 45, (pictured) was injured while skiing with his 14-year-old son in France last December.

He spent months in intensive care, but is now being cared for by his family at his Swiss home.
