Berlin - Susie Wolff has been promoted to the position of official test driver for Williams, the British Formula One team said Friday.

“This is another step in the right direction for me,” Wolff said. “I am delighted Williams are recognizing my progression, hard work and that it is performance that counts.”

Wolff, 31, became the first female driver in 22 years to take part in a Formula One weekend with an appearance in first practice at the 2014 British Grand Prix.

She was previously a development driver with Williams, a position held since April 2012.

In addition to working on simulators, Wolff will take part in two first practice sessions and two test days during the 2015

Formula One season.

Williams, who finished third in the constructors' championship this season, have retained Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa as race drivers for next year.
