London - Jeremy Clarkson has come under fire again after boasting about having a beer by his side in a car.

The provocative BBC presenter was criticised by the AA and a driving safety charity for saying he had the drink in a cup holder.

While filming in Australia, the 54-year-old (pictured) posted on Twitter: ‘One of the best drives of my life. Gravel road. Sun going down. iPod playing Blind Faith. Beer in cup holder.’

However he did not say if he had drunk the beer while in control of the vehicle.

Carole Whittingham from the Campaign Against Drinking and Driving – whose 27-year-old son was killed by a drunk driver – described the controversial journalist as an ‘utter idiot with no responsibility’.

And while there are no UK laws specifically banning the consumption of alcohol while driving, Paul Watters of the AA said it would be ‘highly irresponsible’ to drink a beer at the wheel – even if the driver remains under the limit. Clarkson’s spokesman declined to comment yesterday.
