Johannesburg - Two pristine classic cars are set to go under the hammer when auctioneer Stephan Welz & Co stages another of its events on August 4 and 5 in Sandton.

The first is a 1958 Mercedes Benz W189 Series 300d Adenauer, once used by the Aga Khan on an African tour. The German limo, one of just over 3 000 made, is finished in silver with light grey leather interior accentented with Yugoslavian Beech solid wood finishes. This particular Adenauer was imported into Tanzania and used by the spiritual leader on a family tour in 1958, and later imported into South Africa by its current owner in 1965. It’s expected to fetch around R1.5-million.

Also up for bid is a 1970 Jaguar E-Type, said to be in outstanding concours condition. This model is a Series II Fixed Head Coupé with its original 4.2-litre straight-six engine and four-speed manual gearbox in place. It’s finished in red with black leather, and chrome wire wheels.

Both cars will be sold at the Stephan Welz & Co Fine Art and Design Auction, taking place on Tuesday August 4 and Wednesday August 5, on the 4th floor of the South Tower, Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton.

Pre-auction viewing is open to the public daily from Wednesday July 29 to Monday August 3 between 10am and 5pm.

Bidders can also register and participate online at www.the-saleroom.com. For more information visit www.stephanwelzandco.co.za or call 011-880-3125.
