Johannesburg - A survey of road users revealed that 80 percent found the e-toll administration service “very poor”, the SA Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) said on Tuesday.

“The gross majority of the respondents indicated that the level of service for the e-toll administration was 'very poor', 80.5 percent,” CEO Neren Rau said in a statement.

Sacci was concerned about this. More than 6000 road users were surveyed to give input to the Gauteng e-toll review panel. A mere 0.8 percent said the e-toll service was “good” and 0.3 percent said “very good”.

In the comments section of the survey, the phrase “not pay” appeared 585 times, “never pay” appeared 192 times, and “refuse to pay” 72 times.

“Problems persist despite the significant time and resources already allocated to the system.

“The Sacci position remains that a fuel levy is a more efficient mechanism to fund road infrastructure expansion and maintenance.”
