Hoonigan to join Clarkson in Joburg

Johannesburg - An obvious casualty in the Top Gear divorce is that a certain racing driver in white won't be in the luggage when the Clarkson, Hammond and May Live crew head to Johannesburg next month, but that's not to say the show will be devoid of driving talent.

Some say he's a YouTube sensation and that his not-so-tame Ford Mustang goes by the name of Hoonicorn, all we know is that he's called… Ken Block.

This will be the first time ever that Block struts his Hoonigan stuff on African soil, and he'll be behind the wheel of his heavily modified 630kW 1965 Ford Mustang as seen in the latest Gymkhana 7 video.

With his awe-inspiring precision behind the wheel, the international rally driver, who currently competes in the Global Rallycross Championship, became an internet hit when his ‘Gymkhana’ videos started hitting the web six years ago.

Block is “stoked” to have been invited to join the Clarkson Hammond and May show in Joburg: “I've had the pleasure of working with these guys before and it's always been a lot of fun, I think bringing what I do to an arena format is going to be awesome, and I can't wait to meet the fans in South Africa,” the Hoonigan said.

“It'll be my first time visiting the country and I've heard they're passionate about all things automotive, so I think they're going to enjoy what I'm going to be doing with my Hoonicorn from Gymkhana 7.”

Apart from the Block antics, this year's show promises the usual mix of hot cars, big stunts and the witty banter that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are known and loved for.

The show takes place at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg from 12 to 14 June and tickets, priced from R395 to R2999, can be bought on the official website clarksonhammondandmaylive.co.za .
