London - Driving while chatting on a mobile phone is bad enough, but imagine how distracted and dangerous this driver would have been.
Not only was he on the phone, but he was also consulting a tablet computer and wearing a pair of headphones. The motorist was caught attempting to multi-task by a passing cyclist with a camera mounted on his helmet. Footage of the incident has been handed to police.
The cyclist noticed the motorist looking at his phone as he drove by in a Land Rover Discovery in Aberdeen. After catching up with the vehicle in stationary traffic, he was astonished by what he saw. He gestured to the driver who sheepishly put down the phone and turned off his tablet before driving off.
The cyclist uploaded the footage to his YouTube page under his alias Aberdeen Cycle Cam. He said: “Not only is he not paying any attention to the road, I suspect he’s not even on this planet.” The cyclist, who does not use his real name, records footage on his daily commute to work in an attempt to shame drivers who behave dangerously.
It is an offence to use a hand-held mobile phone while driving. Neil Greig of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said: “The driver should be ashamed to be taking such risks. No call is more important that someone’s life.”
