A shipment of cars imported to Australia from Japan will be tested for nuclear radiation.
The shipment, due to arrive at a port south of Sydney later this week will be tested after requests from wharf workers.
Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency acting chief executive Peter Johnston said: “We understand the concerns about radioactive contamination of imported goods and we're trying to reassure them it isn't a problem.”
Johnston said there was no evidence that dangerously radioactive products had been exported from Japan since the Fukushima reactor meltdowns.
The cars come from a range of manufacturers, but the Maritime Union of Australia said it wanted all imports from Japan tested. - Sapa-dpa
