Balfour, Mpumalanga - The chief traffic officer of the Maquassi-Hill municipality in Wolmaransstad, North West, will appear in Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face fraud charges.

Hawks spokesman Lieutenant Robert Netshiundas said Windy Judas Mahlangu, 46, had appeared in the Wolmaransstad Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for allegedly conniving with truck driver Kobus Jordaan and defrauding the municipality of R540 000 in unpaid licence disc and traffic fines.

“He was rearrested after his court appearance for another fraud case committed in Mpumalanga,” he said. “The Balfour police executed the warrant of arrest against Mahlangu a few moments after he stepped out of the Wolmaransstad court.

“He is behind bars and will be appearing in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Friday to face charges of fraud also relating to traffic fines.”

Netshiunda said Mahlangu allegedly issued fraudulent licence discs in Wolmaransstad for Jordaan’s 39 trucks and ensured that Jordaan did not pay traffic fines for the trucks.

Jordaan, 49, was granted bail of R500 by the Wolmaransstad court due to ill health. The Wolmaransstad fraud case was postponed to November 16 for further investigation.
