As we've reported before, the next Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be a far sexier car and the sketch you see here, said to be a leaked official illustration, could be a very close approximation of what we can expect when the new hatchback is revealed next month.
Unlike the current A-Class and B-Class hatchbacks, which use a rather top-heavy albeit space efficient 'sandwich floor' design, the new generation of compact Mercedes-Benzes will be built on a conventional platform.
This will allow them to have a comparatively low-slung stance and more desirable styling - inspired, in some ways, by the marque's latest sports and concept cars.
This will give Mercedes-Benz the ammo it needs to counter the new generation of premium 'boutique' hatches like the Audi A1 and Alfa Romeo Mito.
These underpinnings will also form the basis of a 'baby CLS' four-door coupe, and while most models will still be front-wheel driven, there are strong rumours of an AMG version of the A-Class complete with all-wheel drive and up to 240kW on tap.
Civilian models, however, will likely be powered by a range of small four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines that the German company is developing in conjunction with Renault. It's also been confirmed that the diesel-powered A-Class will use an existing 1.6-litre Renault engine.
