Could this become one of the most beautiful sedans in the world?

The drawings you see here are alleged to be real illustrations of the next generation Maserati Quattroporte sedan, leaked from a patent office in Europe.

Let your imagination do the colouring in and you’re left with a very elegant, well-proportioned four-door limo that takes much of its styling inspiration from the latest Maserati Gran Turismo coupé.

The ‘boomerang’ headlights are the most obvious similarity, along with the tail lights, but the sedan’s grill appears less oval.

This new Quattroporte, which is expected to be revealed at the Detroit Motor Show next January, will be built on an all-new (and lighter) platform and it’s rumoured that the Ferrari FF’s all-wheel drive system will feature as an option. As before, standard models will channel their power to the back wheels.

On the subject of power, the rumour mill suggests that Ferrari will still supply the engines, at least as far as the V8s are concerned, but there is also talk of a supercharged V6 petrol engine joining the line-up.

This, in addition to the car’s reduced weight, will help Maserati face the ever-stricter European emissions regulations.

The next Quattroporte is not the only new Maserati in the pipeline. The Italian outfit is also working on a smaller sedan to rival the BMW 5 Series as well as an SUV called the Kubang.

The latter has already been revealed in concept form and will be based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s platform.
