Top Queer George clashes with Clarkson

George Michael has lashed out at Jeremy Clarkson after the presenter ridiculed the popstar in a recent Top Gear episode.

According to the Daily Mail, Michael took to Twitter in response, denouncing Clarkson as “pig-ugly” and “homophobic”.

Clarkson, in his review of the Jaguar XKR-S, had said: “It’s very fast and very, very loud. And then in the corners it will get its tail out more readily than George Michael”. The quip was in keeping with the show’s humour, and Clarkson in particular has readily taken potshots at famous personalities in the past.

Michael, however, appears to have kicked off the verbal sparring when, earlier this month, he launched a tongue-in-cheek campaign on Twitter to make the Top Gear show more camp. The 48-year-old former Wham! frontman had posted a video of a shocking pink Bentley, saying: “Ladies and gentleman this thing, this revolting thing is a Bentley in pink driven by a man and it’s not me .I swear this is real. And I sound like Jeremy Clarkson with someone's finger up his a***...... )) its a camp classic all round”.

He later added: “For the love of God, somebody tweet this to Jeremy and tell him it's from a Top Queer ....”

The ribbing however took a nasty turn when Michael took offence at Clarkson’s comment, believing it was a response to his joke.

“Good grief Mr.Clarkson, I wasn't implying your towering heterosexuality was in question. I had no desire to insult you!

“But I do now, you pig-ugly homophobic t**t!!!!!”

A spokesperson for Clarkson, however, denied that the Top Gear star had seen Michael’s tweets.

“He hadn't seen them as he barely knows about Twitter, let alone use it. So he didn't ‘retaliate’ to what George had said as he didn't see it,” she told the Daily Mail.

“If he had, he would have thought it was hilarious, especially the Top Queer gag as it's very funny.

“He did make the joke about George but it wasn't as a result of anything.” - IOL
