Why men only clean outside the car

Is it that people just don't have time to wash their cars anymore?

What it suggests about the sexes is open to interpretation, but there is a distinct gender divide in the way men and women approach cleaning their cars.

For when their car needs a clean, chaps go straight for the hosepipe and chamois to clean the outside - while women are far more likely to tackle the interior with a vacuum cleaner.

Men are apparently far more concerned with their car’s outward appearance, with a quarter (26 percent) washing it once a fortnight. But, of these, fewer than one in four (or just six percent of the total) clean the inside as often.

Indeed, a recent poll showed that many men are even far more lax than that about the interior.

Nearly seven out of ten (67 percent) vacuum their car only twice a year - and one in six (17 percent) confess to never having cleaned the inside of their vehicle at all.

FRESH AND WELCOMING

By contrast, women strive for a fresh and welcoming interior with nearly six out of ten (57 percent) vacuuming the inside at least four times a year. Only one in six (16 percent) wash the outside as frequently, while 11 percent neglect the exterior altogether.

There is an upside to this scenario, according to company that commissioned the poll.

Spokesman David Howells said: “We also found that men are far more likely to wash the outside of their partners’ cars, or help them do so.

“Women on the other hand are happier helping to clean the inside of their partners’ vehicle than the exterior. So a team effort is likely to result in the cleanest car both inside and out.”

The poll also showed that nearly two thirds of men like to clean their car at home compared with 43 percent of women; the rest prefer to use a car wash instead. - Daily Mail
