A big one on the calendar of hot hatch fans, the new VW Golf R arrives during the first half of the year with a new 2-litre TSI engine. Overseas versions pack 221kW, but the SA version may follow the Audi S3 in being detuned due to our hot climate.

2014 is looking to be a cracker of a year as far as new car launches are concerned and now's as good a time as any to get that wish list sorted.
Performance car fans have a lot to look forward to, from the leaner and meaner new BMW M4 and M3 to the radical i8 hybrid, Alfa Romeo 4C and Jaguar F-Type Coupe.
And let's not forget new hot hatch contenders like the VW Golf R and Renault Clio RS, and coupes like the Kia Koup 1.6T and BMW 2 Series.
Some of South Africa's biggest sellers are also due for replacement in 2014, most notably the Toyota Corolla and Mercedes C-Class - both of which will be built on local soil and exported.
Even those on a tight budget can look forward to some interesting new hatchbacks like the Datsun Go, Hyundai i10 Grand and Mitsubishi Mirage.
