These are the first official photos of the very special four-door 'super saloon' that will be the first car to carry the iconic Lagonda nameplate since William Towns' dramatic but ill-fated design of 1976.*

Echoes of that magnificent beast can be seen in the firm, almost severe lines of this exclusive luxury sedan, which is based, as you'd expect, on the existing flexible VH architecture of the Rapide.

PRICED ACCORDINGLY

The new Lagonda will be built - one at a time - by a special Q by Aston Martin bespoke team, in the same building previously dedicated to building the limited-edition One-77 supercar, using many of the same engineering techniques, such as carbon-fibre body panels.

It will be offered for sale by invitation only, and then only in the Middle East, “at a price commensurate with the car's exclusivity, quality and luxurious nature”.

Which explains why this development prototype (which must be the most beautifully finished 'mule' ever built!) is now undergoing hot-weather testing, completely undisguised, in Oman.

*For those of us too young to remember it, the last image in the gallery is a publicity shot of the 1976 Aston Martin Lagonda.
