Woking, Surrey - This is the first 'official' picture McLaren has released of its new entry-level sportscar - and it's very much a teaser.

The car in the photograph is heavily camouflaged, but the typical McLaren tick-shaped headlights are there, and we can see the bulkhead immediately behind the front passenger seat - this is definitely a two-seater, despite rumblings in the cybergarage about a 2+2.

McLaren has said the car will tick all the boxes, with a carbon-fibre box chassis and mid-mounted V8, but will slot into the range below the 650S, putting it directly up against the Porsche 911 and Audi R8.

SEXY CODENAME

Known until recently by its rather sexy internal codename - P13 - but now officially if unimaginatively badged as the McLaren Sport Series, it's due for world release in the second quarter of 2015;

McLaren calls it a game-changer, saying it will change the way we think about sports cars - much as people once believed all swans were white until Dutch explorers found black swans in Western Australia in 1697.

Thus the black swan became the symbol for a moment that challenges what we think we know, and McLaren has adopted the motif for a series of ads that will show why the Sports Series is so different from other sports cars.
