Hennessey Performance in the USA has a reputation for making cars with enough power to truly test the outer limits of insanity.

Its latest beast, the GT2, seems to know no limits whatsoever. In fact, it could make the Bugatti Veyron look like an underpowered milk van in the slow lane.

Slotting above the current 895kW Venom GT in the Hennessey hierarchy, the GT2 has a claimed output of no less than 1500 horsepower, which equates to 1118.55 kilowatts of unadulterated, tyre-smoking madness.

All of this from a 7-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that's available with a seven-speed self-shifting gearbox with paddle shift functionality.

For now Hennessey is remaining secretive about the performance figures and other technical details, but consider that the 'ordinary' 1220kg Venom GT is said to take just 2.2 seconds to run from 0-100km/h, and a sub-two-second acceleration run is not implausible.

You can also expect a top speed well in excess of 400km/h, which means you're going to have to buy a salt pan to really enjoy its potential semi-responsibly.

Talking of cost, Hennessey will be charging $1.25 million (R11-million) for the privilege of owning one of these.
