Cape Town - Infiniti has added a two-litre direct-injection turbopetrol variant to its Q50 line-up, alongside the 2.2-litre direct-injection turbodiesel and the 3.5-litre V6 petrol/electric hybrid.

The new 1991cc inline four is distinctly undersquare, with an 83mm bore and a 92mm stroke, and runs a conservative 9.8:1 compression ratio for a quoted 155kW at 5500 revs and 350Nm from 1250 to 3500rpm; it drives the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.

It's available in South Africa in a choice of two flavours - the Premium, starting at R430 000, and the Sport, from R477 000.

WHAT YOU GET

The Premium comes with a rear-view camera, idle stop, drive mode selector, cruise control with speed limiter, self-levelling halogen headlights, heated, power-adjustable side mirrors, LED foglights at both ends, parking sensors, auto windscreen wipers, dual-zone aircon, dual touchscreens, dual USB ports, keyless entry and start, leather upholstery, tyre pressure warning light and 17” alloys with run flat tyres.

The Sport adds a deeper front bumper, aluminium trim, self-levelling LED headlights with daytime running lights, welcome lighting, heatable side mirrors with power adjustment, folding and reverse settings, an intelligent key with enhanced memory functions, powered rake and reach steering column adjustment, magnesium shift paddles and aluminium pedals, power-adjustable sports seats, tyre pressure monitoring with individual pressures and 18” alloys with run-flat tyres.
