Johannesburg - Great Wall Motors SA is continuing its stream of new models, following the recent launch of the H5 City SUV with a similar entry-level H6 derivative.

The H6 City SUV has all the colour-coded trim, 17" alloy rims, daytime running lights and tinted rear glass as its swankier siblings - in fact the only external giveaway is the lack of roof rails - and at nearly five metres overall on a 2680mm wheelbase it offers the same spacious interior.

The steering wheel is adjustable for both rake and reach, and the gear-lever is mounted on the fascia, French style, to shorten its throw and make the 'flight deck' more spacious; each front seat has its own fold-down armrest.

Standard kit includes auto aircon, a radio/CD player with USB and auxiliary input, power steering, windows and mirror adjustment, full ABS, dual front airbags and even rear parking sensors.

The H6 City rolls courtesy of a 1.5-litre turbopetrol four for which GWM promises 105kW at 5600 revs and 210Nm from 2200-4500r-pm, driving the front wheels via a six-speed manual 'box - at a combined-cycle fuel consumption of 8.5 litres per 100km.

BOTTOM LINE

At R259 900, the H6 1.5T City comes with GWM’S standard passenger-vehicle warranty of five years or 100 000km, including free AA roadside assistance for the first two. A five-year or 60 000km service plan is available at extra cost.
