McLaren's presence at this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed will be headlined by its new track-only GT Sprint version of the 12C, which plugs the gap between the 12C road car and the more hardcore GT3 and GT Can-Am race cars.

Its aim is to deliver a more track-focused GT racing experience while retaining the balance and precise characteristics of the road car.

Urge is provided McLaren's 460kW 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, which includes unique oil and cooling systems. This power-house is paired with a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox.

The PCC suspension system has been tuned and recalibrated to suit the race car's 40mm-lower ride height and racing slick tyres, providing a firmer and more circuit-orientated setup.

THREE HANDLING MODES

The 12C GT Sprint has three unique handling modes that allow the driver to select his or her preferred damping, roll stiffness and ESP settings.

Abundant grip is ensured by 19-inch OZ alloy wheels, wrapped in Pirelli racing slicks.

For that all-important stopping power, the GT Sprint is kitted out with carbon ceramic brake discs.

Numerous external changes aim to optimise aerodynamics and cooling, including a bolder front bumper, GT3-inspired bonnet with radiator exit ducts and front wing louvres.

All the best race car trimmings can be found inside, including an integrated fire extinguisher system, FIA-approved roll cage and fully-adjustable lightweight composite racing seat with six-point harness.

Yet unlike the average race car, the GT sprint is fitted with an air conditioner, although it is a lightweight design.
