New Hilux and Fortuner 'swop faces'

Has Toyota struck the right design chord with its redesigned Hilux and Fortuner, due in South Africa next year, or would they look better wearing each other's faces?

That's the question posed by self-confessed car manipulator Theophilus Chin from Singapore, who clearly had some fun creating these images of the new Hilux with the Fortuner's frontal design and vice versa.

Chin likens it to that '90s film 'Face/Off' where the lead characters, portrayed by Nicolas Cage and John Travolta, swapped faces. The Fortuner certainly looks more macho wearing its bakkie-sibling face, and dare we say it would strike a better chord with the current version's fan base?

And in case you've ever fantasised about a BMW X6-inspired version of the Fortuner might look like, Chin has also done a really neat Fortuner Coupe rendition, which he admits will "annoy the hell out of many people".

Or is he on to something really cool here?
