Johannesburg -

SA Development Community (SADC) Facilitator deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Maseru, Lesotho, on Saturday to observe the country's general elections, his office said.

“...Ramaphosa has arrived in Maseru, where he is expected to witness democracy in action in Lesotho,” spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said.

“During his visit today, deputy president Ramaphosa will be visiting four voting stations around Maseru.”

The election takes place within the framework of the Lesotho Constitution, electoral law and the Maseru Facilitation Accord, as facilitated by Ramaphosa.

The election takes place two years earlier than originally expected, as agreed in the accord.

“Already election observers from SADC, the African Union and the European Union are in Lesotho monitoring the conduct of elections,” Mamoepa said.
