Madrid - Spanish security forces on Tuesday confirmed they detained a 32-year-old man of Moroccan origin preparing to travel to Syria to join Daesh (Islamic State).

The man was arrested by Civil Guards, who had been alerted the man showed clear signs of having been radicalised in the past few months.

This arrest comes shortly after three people were detained in the Catalan region of Spain on Saturday, one of whom was a 24-year-old Spanish-born woman thought to have also been on the verge of travelling to Syria.

The total number of people arrested in Spain this year for forming part of Daesh recruitment networks now reaches 69.

The arrest comes hours after Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy spoke on TV network Tele 5 to state Spain was doing its utmost to fight against Daesh.
