Harare - President Robert Mugabe's 91st birthday party will be held on February 28 at the Elephant Hills resort in Victoria Falls, the state ZBC broadcaster reported Friday.

Supporters would gather on the golf course of the hotel, ZBC said in a report on its website.

Thousands of ruling Zanu-PF party supporters normally attend Mugabe's birthday celebrations, where they are assured of food and entertainment.

It is not clear how much money has been raised to fund the party.

Donors have been asked to give “generously” to the cause.

Zanu-PF official Richard Moyo said “work being done by the various sub-committees in hosting the event has so far been satisfactory,” ZBC reported.

Critics have long argued the money could be better diverted to other social causes in cash-strapped Zimbabwe.

Party youth plan to stage an art exhibition, and a musical gala will be held at a stadium in Victoria Falls in Mugabe's honour. His birthday is on February 21.
