For a single man, it sounds nearly too good to be true.
A town consisting almost entirely of young women is looking for bachelors. But there is one condition - they must be willing to live according to female rules.
Men are generally barred from the Brazilian town of Noiva do Cordeiro, which is run by women who brought in the ban after growing sick of being bossed around.
A handful of its 600 female inhabitants are married, but their other halves are forced to work away from home and return only at the weekends. The lack of men means the town’s single young women - renowned for being strikingly beautiful - have no way of finding a husband.
Resident Nelma Fernandes, 23, said: “The only men we meet are either married or related to us. I haven’t kissed a man for a long time. We’d like to get to know men who would leave their own lives and come to be part of ours. But first they need to agree to live according to our rules.”
Noiva do Cordeiro, which is mostly inhabited by those aged 20 to 35, was founded in 1891 by a woman excommunicated by the Catholic Church for leaving a forced marriage. It was later taken over by an evangelical male pastor who banned the women from drinking or cutting their hair.
When he died in 1995, they brought in the “no men” rule. Boys are sent away when they reach 18. Any bachelors who come will be allowed in only at weekends. Fernandes said: “Our town is prettier and more organised than if men were in charge.” - Daily Mail
