Comic duo Corné and Twakkie, stars of The Most Amazing Show, are to lead a protest to Parliament against the media tomorrow at 11am.

The demonstration is in support of the government’s efforts to muzzle the free press with the proposed Protection of Information Bill and media tribunal. While media institutions and members of the public have been denouncing the planned legislation, the two moustachioed malcontents believe the issues have been blown out of proportion.

“Constitutions are for bloody agents,” Corné said. “Our denemonstration will show what kind of society we can be if only we would trust our golden leaders in government and let them tell us what to think and what to believe and who to listen to.

Corné and Twakkie will be at the vanguard of a march of CityVarsity students and invite like-minded members of the public to join them in the fight against insidious media freedom. “We all know that no news is a good thing,” Twakkie said.

“That whole Steve Biko incident for instant. Who on heaven’s earth wants to watch that kind of thing when you’re chomping at your breakfast serials? Plus, if you have to watch Mr Julianne Malema saying such amazingly stupid stuff all the time, or Prime Minister Zuma’s son or nephew or whatever taking gabillions of rands home you’re just going to end up angry and frustrated and then you’ll have to vote and make a change.”
