A couple were arrested after having sex on a bench near Florence’s Ponte Vecchio - one of the biggest attractions in the city.
Shocked locals spotted the tourists in Lungarno Torrigiani public gardens at 11.45pm on Monday and called the police, but the pair were said to be unfazed by the attention.
A 23-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, both Australian, have been charged with committing an obscene act in a public place.
It came as Italian minister for culture Dario Franceschini said Italy wanted to focus on more “elite” tourists.
Florence has been plagued by badly behaved visitors in recent years.
Last September, an American couple were photographed having sex outside a shop.
A Japanese woman was caught writing her name on the Ponte Vecchio in January, and in 2013 a German tourist was fined after his daughter drew on the medieval bridge.
