London - A passenger was thrown off a plane after flying into a fury over a Christmas greeting.

The man became angry when he was greeted at the gate with the words ‘Merry Christmas’ by a woman member of staff as he boarded an American Airlines flight from LaGuardia airport in New York to Dallas.

The man told her: ‘You shouldn’t say that because not everyone celebrates Christmas.’ When she asked what to say instead, he snapped: ‘Don’t say “Merry Christmas”!?’ and brushed past her.

As he stepped aboard the plane a flight attendant greeted him in the same fashion, causing him to retort ‘Don’t say “Merry Christmas”!’ again before erupting into a tirade against the crew. Airline staff tried to calm him but eventually he had to be ushered off the plane as other passengers cheered his removal. The flight, on Tuesday, departed 40 minutes late.
