A man was caught speeding at 209km/h on the East Rand early on Sunday morning, Ekurhuleni metro police said.
The 35-year old man, in a Mercedes Benz sedan, was apparently rushing to his wife and was caught after a high-speed chase with police shortly before 5am, spokesman Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng said in a statement.
He was one of five drivers caught on the N17 in Brakpan.
The others were going between 168km/h and 181km/h in a 120km/h zone.
All were charged with reckless or negligent driving and would appear in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
