Cape Town - A woman driver, who was arrested after being caught doing 160km/h on the N2 outside Cape Town on Sunday, told traffic police officers she was late for a lunch date when she was pulled over.

Traffic police spokesperson Maxine Jordaan said the 36-year-old from the Strand faces charges of negligent and reckless driving after she was spotted in her Mini Cooper S “cutting motor vehicles off, overtaking without indicating and tailgating” on the N2 inbound just before the satellite station.

“When stopped the reason she gave to the officer was that she was late for a lunch date,” Jordaan said.

The woman, who was travelling alone, was arrested and detained at Site B Khayelitsha police station where she will be held until her court appearance on Tuesday.

Jordaan said roads were extremely busy heading into the CBD.
