Looking for some vagina oil?
Then just head on over to your nearest Woolworths. The retailer has listed the ingredient in an “earth friendly” bleach pod.
An eagle-eyed customer spotted the ingredient in the fine print, and posted it on social media.
The curious shopper asked on Facebook: “Dear Woolworths. Do your washing pods contain 100% vagina oil of natural origin, or is it synthetic?”
And someone at Woolworths clearly has a sense of humour, and confirmed that yes, the vagina oil was 100 percent natural… vanilla!
According to the cheeky Woolies employee, the meaning was lost in translation.
“Yes, we used the words ‘vagina oil’. And yes, it is not a typo,” was Woolworths’ response.
“Perhaps we are being a bit pretentious using the Latin word for vanilla ingredient, but it’s good to know you are reading our labels!”
Vanilla oil is mentioned after the “vagina oil” in the fine print.
“Has Woolworths majored in Latin?” asked a Facebook user.
It appears not, as last time we checked, “vagina” isn’t Latin for vanilla. The translation from Latin to English for “vagina” is “sheath”.
Woolworths explained that consumer labels are highly regulated in South Africa, and that the vagina oil is likely to disappear as a listed ingredient in the near future.
The retail giant said it had instructed the supplier to update the packaging and remove the word “vagina”.
