Cape Town - A man has been arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition in Wesbank, Western Cape police said on Friday.
Captain Frederick van Wyk said the 29-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday. He said police conducting a stop and search operation saw a suspicious man on Etona Street.
“They requested to search him after they saw him throw something away. They found a Norinco star firearm of which the serial number was removed. The firearm had eight rounds of ammunition in it.”
The man was expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate Court on Monday.
