500 arrested in Nyanga crime blitz

Cape Town - Western Cape police arrested over 500 people for crimes ranging from drug possession to operating a business without a licence during operations conducted in the Nyanga area in the past week, a spokesman said on Sunday.

Those arrested included 191 people for dealing and possession of drugs; 14 for dealing in liquor without licences and 31 people were arrested for crimes against women and children. Another 33 were apprehended for having dangerous weapons, Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said.

Eight stolen vehicles were among items recovered.

Drugs confiscated included heroin, tik, Mandrax and dagga.

Some have appeared in court, but most are expected to appear in courts in the area on Monday.
