Johannesburg - A man accused of throwing acid over his ex-girlfriend does not want his pictures to be published, the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court heard on Wednesday.

Jan Pieterse, 29, asked the court through his lawyer for an order that his photograph not be published. He is charged with attempted murder.

The magistrate adjourned the matter until later to allow the lawyer and Pieterse to consult.

The State argued that publication of his pictures would not affect the case as there was no identity parade to be conducted.

The court was expected to rule on his request later.

Pieterse allegedly threw acid over Ines Antonio, 22, outside her house in Sydenham on November 3. She sustained burns to her face and chest.

Their daughter, who was with Antonio at the time, sustained minor burns to her arms.

During his last appearance in December, Pieterse was denied bail as the court heard he was a flight risk and that after the attack he allegedly continued sending text messages to Antonio, threatening to kill her.
