Port Elizabeth - Well-known Port Elizabeth businessman Shaun Ah Shene was released on R8 000 bail by the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after he appeared on charges of fraud and tax evasion.

Ah Shene, 55, the sole owner of Coral Blue Trading, allegedly failed to pay his taxes for six years and reportedly owes the South African Revenue Services more than R2 million.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said Shene’s 21 investments accounts and 13 fixed properties had been placed under restraint, as well as an undisclosed sum of money in his bank accounts.

His wife Virginia’s properties had also been frozen. His case was postponed to 30 November to allow for further investigation.
