Durban - A man was stabbed to death in Durban CBD on Wednesday after he was caught allegedly stealing from a shop, KwaZulu-Natal police reported.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said in a statement: “At 12:00 today, a 29-year-old man was stabbed to death, allegedly by two suspects aged 31 and 41 years, at the corner of Grey and Victoria Streets in Durban.

“It is alleged that the deceased was stealing from the suspects’ shop when he was caught and stabbed. He sustained a stab wound on the neck and died instantly. Both suspects were arrested by Durban Central Police for murder and will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court soon.”

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, said: “We are extremely concerned about people taking the law into their own hands. The police must be given the space to do their job of investigating the crime and ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book”.
