ANC councillor in dock after EFF attack

Rustenburg - ANC ward councillor Luvuyo Tolo Maqwane is expected to continue to apply for bail in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Maqwane is accused of attacking Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members at Popo Molefe informal settlement near Rustenburg on July 15.

He allegedly led a mob pelting EFF members with bricks, leaving their cars damaged. The EFF members were campaigning in the area for the EFF’s second anniversary rally to be held in Olympia Park Stadium on Saturday.

Maqwane is facing charges of malicious damage to property, intimidation and assault.

Investigating officer, Constable Kamogelo Khunou, told the court on Wednesday that Maqwane’s life was at risk as the complainants had threaten to attack him and he [Maqwane] also allegedly threatened to kill the compliants.
