Lephalale - A Limpopo ANC ward councillor accused of stealing wheelchairs appeared in the Lephalale Regional Court on Thursday, police said.

The case was postponed to November 7 for further investigation, Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena said.

Vincent Motlokwa was arrested earlier this month for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing over 20 wheelchairs.

“A complainant approached the police and opened a case about housebreaking and theft,” Mokoena said at the time.

“She said the councillor went to one of their storerooms, broke the locks, and stole the wheelchairs.”

The stolen wheelchairs were distributed to disabled people at an event attended by Limpopo premier Stan Mathabatha.

According to DA councillor Steven Manamela, the wheelchairs belonged to the Tshimologo Disability Organisation, based in Marapong. They had been donated to the organisation earlier this year.

Motlokwa, however, told police he had an agreement to take the chairs. He was arrested and released on R500 bail.
