Cape Town - British businessman Shrien Dewani, who is accused of orchestrating the murder of his wife, claims that they were trying to have a baby as soon as they could.

His advocate, Francois van Zyl SC, read out a report by a doctor in Bristol who his wife, Anni Hindocha, consulted less than a week after she married Dewani.

The report indicated that Anni wanted pills to help increase her chances of falling pregnant.

Folic acid pills were recommended.

Van Zyl put this to Sneha Mashru, Anni's cousin and confidante, who testified on behalf of the State on Monday.

During Mashru's evidence, she claimed that Anni was unhappy and did not get along with Dewani.

She wanted a divorce.

But Dewani disputes this and claims that they were happy and wanted to be married to each other.

Earlier on Monday, Mashru denied that Anni wanted to fall pregnant.

She was adamant that Anni had taken acne medication before the wedding and was advised not to fall pregnant for about a month after taking the pills.

In addition, she said that Anni would have told her if she planned to have a baby.

The trial continues on Tuesday.
