Camperdown - A group of armed men took cash, jewellery, ammunition and a cellphone in a robbery at a farm in Camperdown on Friday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

A 76-year-old woman was in her kitchen at Honigkrantz Farm when about eight men wearing balaclavas gained entrance through her back door which was unlocked, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

“The suspects allegedly taped her hands together and demanded money and firearms,” Zwane said.

During the robbery two of the elderly woman's domestic workers reported for duty. They were also tied up and guarded by some of the robbers.

“The elderly woman was pinched with a pair of pliers while the suspects were demanding firearms from the safe. Her house was ransacked,” he said.

Police believed the men may be part of a larger syndicate which had targeted another farm at Cato Ridge on Wednesday.

Two armed men confronted a 40-year-old farm employee who was feeding pigs at the time.

The men taped his hands and mouth and forced him to go to the main house.

“During the incident another eight armed suspects joined the group.

“Once inside, the suspects approached the strong room and took firearms, a .303 shotgun and a pistol as well as live rounds,” Zwane said.

The men took jewellery, cash, a camera and a cellphone from the safe, and then fled into the nearby bushes.

No arrests have been made.
