The security company at the Chris Hani-Baragwanath hospital must be replaced, the Democratic Alliance said on Friday.

“The security company at this hospital, Mabotwane, must be fired and replaced with a competent company,” said DA spokesman Jack Bloom.

This comes after a nurse at the hospital was stabbed by her boyfriend on Thursday.

Last weekend, a mentally ill man stabbed several people, including an intern doctor, in the same hospital.

Bloom said there were security problems at other hospitals in Gauteng and all the security contracts had to be reviewed.

“We must get good value for the more than R150 million that we spend every year on hospital security in Gauteng,” he said.

Management at the Baragwanath hospital had to be held accountable for the “unforgivable” security lapses. - Sapa
