Johannesburg - The man found with his hands bound in the boot of a burnt car in Florida Park, Johannesburg, has not yet been identified, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

Police still had to confirm that the man was the same one a company car had been issued to, as the body was burnt beyond recognition, spokesman Major Mack Mngomezulu said.

“We are waiting for forensics to confirm the identity of the person and this might take a few days.”

The Star identified him as Gerard Sadan. He left behind a 20-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter.

On Monday, police received a complaint that a car was on fire in Church Street in the Roodepoort suburb around 4am.

At the time, Mngomezulu said when police went to the scene they found a car on fire.

When the fire was put out, they found a man in the boot with his hands tied behind his back.

“Police are investigating murder. Currently we don't know the motive for the killing. The cause of death will also be investigated. The body was burnt beyond recognition,” he said at the time.

The car belonged to a chemical company in Randburg.

“It is unclear if the man is employed at the company. His identity will be determined through investigations,” said Mngomezulu.

Johannesburg emergency services spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said there was no one else around the car when they arrived on the scene.
