Durban - Mystery surrounds the death of an unidentified person whose body parts were found scattered on the N2 near eManzimtoti yesterday morning.

Paramedics say they were alerted to what appeared to be a leg lying next to the fast lane by road users travelling towards eManzimtoti.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said on arrival, paramedics found a leg on the south-bound side of the road, and later, other parts lying in the north-bound carriageway.

“We can’t disclose as yet what body parts were found and what were not found, as we could hardly identify most of the parts. The only body part positively identified at this stage is one leg,” Botha said.

The other unidentified parts were found about 200m away from where the leg had been lying.

It took about an hour to gather the body parts that were found, Botha said.

“From what we gathered, it looked like an incident from very early this morning.

“We currently don’t know the gender of the victim and we don’t know how the victim died.”

KZN police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said Isipingo police were investigating a case of culpable homicide.

“We can confirm that Isipingo police station is investigating a case of culpable homicide which happened on the N2 near Isipingo.

“It is alleged that the body parts of an unidentified person were found near the road.

“No arrest has been made at this stage,” said Zwane.
