Cape Town - Cape Town police on Thursday reported a breakthrough in a rape investigation after having identified an offender already in their custody as the rape suspect they had been searching for.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, police followed up on information on the rape of a 24-year-old woman. The attack had happened in Ntantiso Road, Masiphumelele.

Police then arrested a 34-year-old male suspect on a charge of presumed stolen property, said SAPS spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana.

But, on Thursday, police were able to charge that suspect, who had remained in their custody, with rape.

The suspect, a resident of Khayelitsha, would appear in Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday said Rwexana.
