Bystander dies in shoot-out

Pretoria - A woman, 40, was killed in a shoot-out between police and robbers in Pretoria North on Monday.

Police said the shoot-out followed a robbery at a Steve Biko Road liquor store.

The store owner was approached by two men – one had a gun. The owner was shot and robbed of money and the suspects fled.

Police were alerted and chased the suspects.

At Fred Nicholson Street a shoot-out ensued. A bystander was shot and killed. The suspects got away.

A source said the woman was walking to the shops with her husband who did not immediately notice she had been shot.

“He went to assist the officers... When he went back to his wife he realised she’d been shot.”

The liquor store owner was shot in the chest and leg and was in a critical condition.
