Cape Town cops make R260k dagga bust

Cape Town - A 34-year old man was expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Wednesday on a charge of drug dealing after dagga with an estimated street value of over a quarter of a million rand was found in his vehicle, police said on Tuesday.

“On Sunday…members from SAPS Cape Town International Airport, were on patrol in Freedom Farm Informal settlement where they noticed a suspicious vehicle roaming in the area. They followed the vehicle and when the occupant (suspect) noticed the police vehicle following him, he stopped it and attempted to run away,” police spokesman FC van Wyk said.

“The suspect was apprehended and when the vehicle was searched members discovered 16 bags of dagga and an illegal firearm which they seized, together with the Mercedes Benz Vito in which it was transported.”

The dagga was valued to be worth approximately R262 000.

In addition to the drug dealing charge, the man is also expected to face a charge of the illegal possesssion of a firearm.
