Cape Town - An Eastern Cape court has sentenced a Mooiplaas man to 17 years imprisonment for the rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The Mdantsane police’s family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit welcomed the sentence handed down to Sithembiso Chopiso who was sentenced in the East London Regional Court on Wednesday.
He had been found guilty of raping the 13-year-old girl at Mzwini township, Bluewater, in May 2013.
Constable Bulelani Madikiza headed up the investigation.
“This is a great achievement by Constable Madikiza and I know he is destined for more,” said unit commander, Lieutenant Colonel Bukelwa Maqhubela.
The teenager’s family also welcomed the sentence.
