Mthatha - A man accused of raping a 16-year-old girl was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Captain Jackson Manatha said Phakamani Xala, 25, was sentenced on Monday.
Xala was arrested after he raped the girl at Ibika Township in Butterworth on the December 25, last year. He was armed with a knife.
Manatha said Xala stabbed the girl, who was home alone, on her right arm and raped her.
