Johannesburg - After a video circulated last week showing taxi drivers fragrantly flouting the law by driving into oncoming traffic on a busy Johannesburg road, the city’s Metro police have launched a clampdown, arresting four taxi drivers and another road user on Tuesday.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the five drivers were arrested for driving on the wrong side of Jan Smuts Avenue in Randburg on Tuesday.

“This brings the total number to fourteen arrests after a complaint was received last week of how taxi drivers were endangering other motorists by driving in the wrong side of Jan Smuts Ave,” said Minnaar

Minnaar said authorities would continue with the operation.
